We received some calls after a spring rain yesterday of people finding flying insects that look like ants in their pools and around their homes. Southern Utah does have subterranean and Drywood termites. Spring is the swarming season for most subterranean termites. Most species of subterranean termites swarm during the spring and summer months, typically on a warm day with calm winds after a rainfall...There are several subterranean termite species and they don't all swarm at the same time. Drywood termites tend to swarm more in the warmer part of the year during the summer.

As homes gets older and pre-treats wear off homes are more likely to have termite issues especially once they get past the 10 year mark. As homeowners the basic things we can do to stay ahead of issues is to have termite inspections done yearly after homes reach the 10 year mark.
