Near Miss.... I was reviewing a new patients labs and came across a problem with her blood production. I reviewed the last 18 months of labs and double checked the results and she appeared to be developing a lethal bone marrow issue. She was never told this could be a potential issue. I rapidly consulted the hematologist and after drawing labs a THIRD time they determined this was all lab error and she is OK.

I was wrong, and that is alright. Its better to do the investigation and get data PROVING I was wrong and no harm to the patient than blowing off her results and being correct on luck. I never work on luck. Taking time with patients; every patient/ every encounter.
