Travis Rinker — Multi-Instrumentalist / Composer
Travis Rinker is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter. He is the primary composer and driving musical force behind Wretched Sea, crafting the intricate landscapes of their melodic progressive death metal sound.
Born and raised in Northern California, Travis began playing guitar at age thirteen and assembled his first metal band within months, producing their first album the following year.
Some time later, he developed an interest in solo acoustic guitar performance. His many solo performances led to renewed inspiration, resulting in his first album "Acoustic Trance" in 2011 and later his second album "Surrounded by Trees".
Travis went on to win first place in the 2013 "Rising Stars" music competition held in Ukiah, CA, in three categories: First Place with his band, First Place in Acoustic Guitar, and First Place Overall. Performing all original compositions in various altered guitar tunings and using a loop station, he captured the audience with his innovative and beautiful sound. A judge’s review called his performance "Truly a joy to watch and listen to...excellent guitar!!!"
He later competed in the 10th Annual Canadian Guitar Festival in 2014 in Kingston, Ontario, where he received an honorable mention, with a twist of strange incidents.
In 2017, Travis’ music was featured in the first-ever undercover documentary film "Korean Dog Meat Exposé", highlighting the conditions, cruelty, and industry of the dog meat trade.
Travis has collaborated and shared the stage with some of his favorite musicians, including fingerstyle guitarist Alex De Grassi, where they performed a unique cover of Opeth’s "Porcelain Heart". He also worked with vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid of Soilwork (Vox By Björn), who contributed lyrics and vocals to his song "Thy Midnight Seeds". Longtime friend Rick E Hunolt, guitarist of Exodus, has also been an inspiration for lead guitar, including guest improvisation on select songs.
More recently, Travis formed the atmospheric black metal project "Resting Forest" with Italian drummer Summum Algor of "Adversam", releasing their debut EP "Shadeborn" this year. He also plays second guitar with California metal band VENGINCE.
After years of writing demo material and searching for the right lineup, Travis has revived Wretched Sea with a renewed melodic interpretation. His style is defined by a balance of aggressive, precision-driven riffs layered with emotive, memorable melodies that push the listener into a wall of reflection.
