Head Start programs have until July 13, 2026, to weigh in on proposed federal grant rule changes 📣

Last month, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) published proposed revisions to the Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), the government-wide framework that governs how federal grants are awarded, administered, monitored, and audited. The proposed changes would apply broadly across federal grant programs, including Head Start.

While OMB states that the proposed changes are intended to strengthen accountability and oversight, several provisions could create additional administrative requirements, cause greater uncertainty around federal funding, and limit access to professional development opportunities.

Public comments help policymakers understand how these proposed changes could affect program operations, staff, children, and families – and Head Start's voice is essential in this process.
