Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of celebrating our graduating residents and fellows alongside the faculty, staff, family members, friends, and mentors who supported them along the way.

Graduation is an opportunity to recognize not only years of hard work and achievement, but also the relationships built through shared call shifts, reading rooms, research projects, conferences, celebrations, and countless everyday moments. We are grateful to have been part of these journeys and proud to celebrate this remarkable group as they move on to the next stage of their careers.

🎉👏 Congratulations to Gabriela Rodriguez Gonzalez on being recognized as a UC Davis Health Principles of Community (POP) Award winner!

💙 Gabriela, a Medical Office Service Coordinator III at our Folsom Medical Care Clinic, was honored for her extraordinary dedication to helping a patient navigate a complex insurance authorization process that spanned nearly 11 months. Her persistence, compassion, and commitment ensured the patient ultimately received the care they needed and is a powerful example of patient-centered service in action.

🏥 Since joining Radiology, Gabriela has been instrumental in building strong operations across our ambulatory practices. She has played a key role in training front desk staff across Folsom, 48X, Placer Center for Health, and other ambulatory locations, helping create consistent workflows and a seamless patient experience.

📋 From patient access and scheduling to insurance verification, authorizations, and revenue cycle support, Gabriela's expertise touches nearly every step of the patient journey. Her dedication to both patients and colleagues has helped make our growing ambulatory imaging services successful from day one.

Don’t miss UC Davis Radiology at the upcoming 2026 Association of Academic Radiology (AAR) Annual Meeting in Atlanta!

Our faculty, trainees, and students are contributing to important conversations shaping the future of radiology education and academic medicine.

🔹 Anne Darrow, MA, MD will present “What the Eye Can’t See: Implicit Bias in Radiology,” exploring how implicit bias can influence clinical decision-making and educational environments in imaging.

🔹 David S. Chen , MD will present research on the use of generative AI in diagnostic radiology residency applications, based on a study co-authored by radiology resident Kaylan Griffith, MD, medical student Connie Chan, and Residency Program Director Ghaneh Fananapazir, MD.

Dr. Chen was also selected to participate in the AAR Faculty Development Program at this year’s meeting.

Congratulations are also due to resident Christopher Lan, MD, for being accepted into the AAR Academic Leadership Development Program, which prepares emerging academic radiologists for future leadership roles.

Huge congratulations to Lamia Choudhury, MD on being named the Clinical Conundrums Winner at the 2026 Society of Thoracic Radiology Annual Meeting!

In this fast-paced, live case challenge, residents work through complex thoracic imaging studies before a live audience of peers and national experts. The format goes beyond simply reaching the right diagnosis — it is a true test of diagnostic skill, critical thinking, mastery of thoracic pathology, composure, and clarity under pressure.

Our faculty and trainees have a long track record of innovation, leadership, and international recognition in areas ranging from total-body PET/CT with the EXPLORER scanner and advances in breast CT to AI-driven image reconstruction, sustainable imaging practices, and radiation dose optimization/safety.

Lung cancer screening exams, light refreshments, and lunch will be available, make plans to attend!
