With the forecasted extreme heat and humidity from Wednesday, July 1, to Friday, July 3, 2026, the S**o Transportation Center will be open as a cooling center from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The S**o Community Center Splash Pad (75 Franklin Street) is also available for use, for all ages, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily. Bathrooms are available in the S**o Community Center.
Key steps you can take before and during the heatwave include:
• Check that fans and air conditioning systems are working properly
• Stay hydrated, drinking water throughout the day
• Avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day
• Wear light, loose-fitted clothing and avoid dark fabrics
• Check on family and neighbors, especially vulnerable individuals like older residents or those with limited mobility
• Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles
• Stay indoors when you can
