Lauren DuPrez - A Beautiful Inheritance
05/29/2026
🧠As Mental Health Awareness month comes to a close, here’s a post I wrote last year articulating some of my thoughts about whether therapy is biblically acceptable for Christians.
I have a degree in psychology and when I first attended a church that taught sound doctrine in my early twenties, I was asked how I could be a Christian and a psychology major. I didn’t realize it at the time, but this question is very revealing.
It’s helpful to remember that the gospel isn’t, “Don’t participate in therapy and you’ll be saved.” It’s, “. . . if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved,” (Romans 10:9).
As the Spirit sanctifies me, I’ve learned that when I’m fearful of secular ideals/practices (like therapy and medication), my view of God is simply too small. He was powerful enough to secure victory over sin making Him abundantly capable of continuing to grow His people even if they use these resources. In fact, He promises to, and nothing can diminish His power. I hope this encourages you to treasure Jesus more and evokes gratitude for God’s generosity in all the gifts He’s given us, namely Himself.
