Four Kittens Who Almost Didn’t Make It

Cobb County Animal Services gave six newborn kittens just two hours to find a way out.

At 2:30 PM, the plea was posted. At 4:30 PM, the doors would close.

These babies were rescue-only, meaning they could not leave without a rescue’s commitment. Even though we are stretched thin, All About Cats said yes.

One of our volunteers rushed to the shelter and arrived just after closing. Staff said no. But instead of giving up, she asked one simple question:

“Could you please check one more time?”

A few minutes later, staff returned with unexpected news.

“There are still four in the back. Do you want them?”

Without hesitation, the answer was yes.

Three were about a day old and the other was about a week old. Tiny, vulnerable, and completely dependent on someone stepping in to help them.

Sadly, one precious newborn was simply too fragile to survive. Though our hearts are broken, he spent his final moments being held, loved, and comforted instead of being alone.

The remaining three kittens are now safe with a foster mama cat who immediately accepted them as her own. She is feeding them, cleaning them, and keeping them warm as if they had always belonged together.

Stories like this are only possible because of volunteers.

Because a volunteer answered the call.
Because a volunteer drove to the shelter.
Because a volunteer asked one more time.

And because someone cared enough to say yes.

These tiny fighters need around-the-clock support as they continue to grow stronger.
