We decorate homes in shimmering light,
Candles flicker against the quiet night,
But it is not the ornaments or the tree,
It is the faces gathered that make us feel free.

The long months worked and the plans we kept,
The tears we hid and the nights we slept less,
All of it led to this tender scene,
Family laughing in a warm winter dream.

Stockings hang where memories live,
Gifts are wrapped with all we give,
But the greatest gift that fills this room
Is knowing our effort kept love in bloom.

We roast the feast and pour the wine,
Voices mingle like carols in time,
The year we built becomes clear tonight,
In shared stories by a fire’s soft light.

So breathe it in and hold it near,
The magic that comes this time of year,
Christmas is not found in what we do,
It is found in the ones who surround you.
