World War II Survivor - Bill Feeler 11/11/2025

On this Veterans day, please take a moment to learn from Rolla High School’s Class of 1944 graduate, Mr. Bill Feeler.

William “Buckshot” Feeler was born in August 1926 on his family’s farm in Rolla, Missouri. He helped on the farm while going to school and graduated from Rolla High School in 1944. In January of 1945, he was drafted into the service of the United States Army. After basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky, he was sent to the Philippines and served during the Liberation of the Philippines. Just a few days after the Japanese surrendered during World War 2, he was sent to Japan for nine months. He celebrated his 19th birthday aboard the ship en route there. After discharge from the Army, he returned home to the farm. He worked at Fort Leonard Wood as a civilian in charge of maintenance for nearly 20 years, retired, and then worked for Rolla Public Schools as a bus driver for 28 years. He has been married to his wife, Geneva, for 72 years and has 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Thank you, Mr. Feeler for your service and for sharing your story with us.
