Welcome to the Missouri S&T Sustainable Engineering page! We are an entrepreneurial design team that focuses on addressing different environmental problems each year related to pollution or scarcity. We create goods and services out of environmental dilemmas, which in turn allows us to create businesses and non-profits that will compete in regional, national, and international Shark Tank-like competitions for an organization known as Enactus. During the 2023-24 year, our project will focus on an untapped industry that we believe to be the revolution of agriculture, vertical farming. This innovation opens new, emerging ideas in agriculture that are just now being explored, such as:

• Climate-controlled greenhouses to grow produce year-round regardless of season or biome
• Greenhouses to prevent the need for harmful pesticides or herbicides
• Combination of LED lights and sunlight provides the farm sunlight 24/7
• LEDs allowing the plants aromas, tastes, and texture to be customized with GMOs
• Organic liquid fertilizer is produced through composting
• Liquid fertilizer nutrients tailored to each crop
• Year-round temperature control through the residual heat of natural composting processes
• Increased efficiency of land usage due to the plants being stacked vertically
• Land usage is reduced due to the plants being stacked vertically
• Rainwater recycling is utilized to reduce the environmental impact caused by water scarcity
