In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing underground fiber optic cables that power internet, telephony, and data networks. Some of the responsibilities based on the position:
Operate heavy equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, and bucket trucks to excavate trenches for fiber optic cable installation
Use hand tools and power tools to prepare trenches, lay cables, and secure connections according to schematics and technical specifications
Perform fiber splicing with precision to ensure optimal signal transmission and network performance
Install cabling in underground conduits, manholes, and handholes following telecommunication standards and safety protocols
Conduct site inspections, including climbing structures when necessary, to verify proper installation and adherence to schematics
Utilize computer networking knowledge to troubleshoot low voltage systems, LAN (Local Area Network), Ethernet connections, and WAN (Wide Area Network) infrastructure
Maintain detailed records of construction activities, including diagrams, schematics, and progress reportsExperience
Proven field service experience in underground fiber construction or related telecommunication projects.
Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, or similar machinery.
Skilled in fiber splicing techniques and cabling installation for telecommunication networks.
Knowledge of electrical systems, low voltage wiring, network infrastructure, and IT components such as switches and routers.
Familiarity with schematics, technical drawings, and construction plans for fiber optic deployment.
Ability to work safely at heights through climbing training or experience with elevated structures.

Job description
Directional Drill Operator
D&D Service is looking for experienced Directional Drill Operator or will train the right person to install Coaxial Cable and/or Fiber in the Twin Cities metro area. Pay is based on experience and D&D does offer a full benefit package. D&D will supply all tools required to complete the work. D&D is located just west of Maple Grove on County Road 10 in a brand-new campus shop in Corcoran. No out of state travel.

Job Description:
Responsible for daily maintenance on truck and boring machine.
Perform critical care and service to the machine after each use and each day.
Adhere to ALL manufacturer provided safety operational procedures and industry safety standards.
Operate the drill and provide training and assistance to coworkers.
Perform routine labor (potholing, equipment set-up, conduit/duct/cable placement, set pedestals) as required.
Drive vehicle with drill to the jobsite.
Willingness to cross-train as a bore locator as required.
Operator will direct others to/or mix bore gel for the machine.
Prior experience operating drilling equipment required and must work well with others and participate on a crew.
Must understand utility locate law and compliance procedures.
Responsibilities include pre-job site survey/inspection to assure all utilities have been located and accounted for, planning the job, assign work tasks to laborers.
Assure all located utilities that are in the construction path have been pot-holed, assist in other jobsite labor tasks (set pedestals, place pipe/conduit, pull cables, etc.).
Willingness to cross-train to become proficient at operating drill machine.
Possess experience operating a utility locator, experience in underground utility construction, will accept a leadership role and responsibility for a crew.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Identify and clearly mark existing underground cables as directed.
Identify and mark locations of new cable to be buried underground (“bury drops”).
Operate locate and bury drop equipment as required within areas of responsibility.
Perform a variety of tasks and duties to support both field personnel and our customers.
Replace pedestals.
Perform quality assurance checks and complete the paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
Wear safety apparel which includes hard hats (where required), safety vests, OSHA approved boots, etc.
Requirements:
Class A license with air brakes is preferred not required.
Must have directional drill locator experience.
Effectively communicate with other departments to handle escalating issues in a timely manner.
Multi-task and change from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
Possess strong problem solving and decision-making skills while using good judgment.
Possess an enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated, and detail-oriented approach towards work and all work projects.
Apply personal ethics, honesty, initiative, flexibility, responsibility and confidentiality in all areas of responsibility.
