The under-5 mortality rate in the 2025-26 Timor-Leste DHS Key Indicators Report is 41 per 1,000 live births. This means that more than 9 out of 10 children in Timor-Leste will survive their 5th birthday. Total fertility rate in Timor-Leste has decreased from 5.7 children per woman in 2009-10 to 3.4 children in 2025-26. Fertility is higher in rural areas than in urban areas; on average, rural women give birth to 3.8 children in their lifetime, as compared with 2.7 children among urban women.
