Unveiled Bride

A beautiful love story. Short and sweet. There was no crazy drama involved, no back and forth, and no cold feet. This is the story of Isaac and Rebekah (Gen 24:1-67)

The story of Rebekah teaches us two things: 1) God hears us and answers our prayers, and 2) We can be the answer to someone’s prayers.
The servant of Abraham was given the task to find Isaac a wife from his land and clan. As you can imagine this was no simple task. The servant prayed to the Lord that he may provide a young woman that when he asks her for a drink of water not only accepts but offers water for his camels as well. Before he was even able to finish his prayer Rebekah came out with her jar as God’s answer, and she does exactly as he wished for the young woman to do.
Rebekah was humble and the Bible says she was very beautiful. She not only offered water to him and his camels, but she quickly offered her house to him and his camels to spend the night. When the servant told her brother and father why he was there and how God confirmed Rebekah as the young woman to be married to his servant’s son, Rebekah’s father and brother quickly conceded. The answer given was: “This is from the Lord; we can say nothing to you one way or another. Here is Rebekah take her and go and let her become the wife to you master’s son as the Lord has directed.” (v. 50-51)
The very next morning the servant wished to leave with Rebekah to meet with his master. But her brother and mother wished for Rebekah to stay another 10 days before she left. But Rebekah decided to leave that same morning to meet with his master. Rebekah knew that this was from God and that she was the answer to a prayer, so she obeyed.
Everything happened quickly they met, the servant relayed what had happened, and he married her. And the Bible says he loved her and was comforted after his mother’s death.
Let us always have faith the Lord listens and answers. And let us be aware that God may be using us to be the answer to someone’s prayer and we should respond in humility and obedience just as Rebekah did.
