Civilians Kill Two Terrorists in One Day-Miles Apart
By Rick McCann

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
Clients dictate what level of security that they think that they need often saying we don’t need nor want gun-toting security guards.
Security company owners and management can frequently be heard saying we don’t need to arm our people, and we don’t need to train them in self-defense, active shooter response or anything remotely similar. We’re just there to “observe and report”
All the while the news headlines keep screaming year after year, danger, violence, officer attacks and murders on the rise, but private security continues to ignore these facts that continue to stare them in their face.
On Thursday, March 12th, 2026, in two different states, hundreds of miles apart, two terroristic acts occurred that could have ended with dozens of children being killed in Michigan, and dozens of college students killed in Virginia.
But that didn’t happen at a West Bloomfield Michigan synagogue when an armed man drove his vehicle into the building and was ready for battle. Because so were the security staff who fatally shot Ayman Ghazali, 41, a restaurant worker from Dearborn Heights.
The crash started a fire and injured one of the security officers but 140 children and staff who were there, left the synagogue as they came, uninjured.
The Oakland County Sheriff praised the quick and decisive actions of the security officers and said that if it had not been for their immediate actions, people would be dead.
About seven hundred miles away on the same day, another terrorist entered another school. This time it was the Old Dominion University in Norfolk.
Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a 36-year-old former Army National Guard soldier with previous ties to ISIS was able to get pass school police and security and killed one person and injured two others, but that’s as far as he would get.
A class of ROTC cadets who just happen to be in class rose to the occasion subduing, disarming and killing Jalloh before anyone else was injured or lost their lives.
Sadly, Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, a military science professor and ROTC instructor, lost his life during the attack. Two others were injured and police said they have non-life-threatening injuries.
Had the security officers at the synagogue and the ROTC students at the college not been trained, prepared and up to the challenge, dozens of people would probably not be alive today.
Security officers in 2026 “must” be trained in hand-to-hand combat including ground fighting.
They must have active shooter training and be issued body armor and 2-way radio communications.
There are very few security contracts that dictate unarmed security officers in this day and time!
Of course, arming more of your staff will cost you more money, more time and higher wages for your security personnel but isn’t their life and the lives that they’ve been hired to protect, worth it?
Security officers can either be victims or protectors. If you choose the wrong answer, your employees' blood will be on your hands.
