It took a couple days to drive back home after the end of The Great Race - South Carolina to Illinois ain't no short trip! But, we had two amazing stops along the way - the Wheels Through Time Museum and The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. Two of my bikes have been for years at Wheels Through Time and I've never had the chance to see them up close. Unfortunately Dale Walksler is no longer alive, but I met an amazing curator, Andy Norris there. Too much to tell, but he had a lifelong connection to some of the artwork I had done years back.
A visit to the Indy 500 museum was a huge surprise - they had just reopened after 18 months of a 70 million dollar renovation. (I was there last in 2012.) I did restoration artwork on a number of early Indy historical cars, and those early era cars are such an exciting part of it all. Both these places are worth a visit!

WOW! What a ride this past 12 days have been with The Great Race! Have many many things to share, and I'll do that over the next few days - the finish line was amazing to watch all over 100 vehicles, including the winners and confetti blasts up close. But, wanted to share late tonight, as we just pulled off the road, how well the auction of my artwork benefitting the student X-Cup went. It was an honor to see the live painting I worked on during the week bring over $5,000 and the fun cartoon art also done on the fly bring in another $1,000 for this great cause. Here are the winning bidders, Dan and Sam - I'll share the crazy story of how a fun error on day two led to these men being the center of some of the sketches I did, and ultimately them winning the canvas artwork! For now, THANK YOU Great Race friends and allowing me to join you all for an epic lifetime experience! Can't wait to share more of this with you all!

Day Two at The Great Race! Started the day early this morning painting away on the sunny patio of our hotel in Rochester, Mn. Ended our day along the route, in all places, but my hometown area! All the participant cars lined up downtown tonight look amazing. Off to Springfield tomorrow en route to Irmo S.C. by Sunday the 29th. Let's do this thing!!
