Winter in Rochester is rough on tires. Before the summer road trip season kicks off, give yours a quick check.
Start with the penny test. Drop a penny into the tread with Lincoln's head facing down. If you can see the top of his head, your tread is too low and it is time for new tires. Check both the center of the tire and the outer edges. Wear in the middle means overinflation. Wear on the edges means underinflation. Uneven wear from one side to the other often means an alignment issue.
Next, take a slow walk around each tire and look at the sidewalls. Any bulges, bubbles, or cracks are a serious red flag. A bulge means the internal structure of the tire is failing and it can blow out without warning. If you see one, do not drive on that tire. Get it replaced right away.
Finish with a pressure check. Hot summer pavement plus underinflated tires equals trouble.
