Families and individuals can thrive with the financial, social and personal assets to improve their own quality of life.
How the United Way improves economic mobility:
GETTING A JOB
United Way's program partners give people the opportunity to gain meaningful employment, education and training. Some of these opportunities include access to flexible childcare and transportation.
GAINING SKILLS
We help workers develop soft skills to increase their job retention and make sure they are able to maintain meaningful employment.
FINDING FINANCIAL STABILITY
By helping an individual or family improve their financial health, they are able to move forward to financial stability.
Economic Mobility | United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes The United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes strives to provide many ways to help improve members of our communities quality of life through economic mobility
03/17/2023
A healthy meal is critical to a student’s well-being, yet many children are deprived of that in our region, due to food insecurity. In the Finger Lakes region, more than 156,000 residents, including more than 52,000 children, are considered food insecure.
Studies suggest food insecurity, especially in children, is linked with an increased risk of birth defects, cognitive and behavioral problems, and depression. All of these factors impact the general well-being of a community. Children from food secure households generally tend to be more successful than those from food insecure households.
Gifts to United Way’s Community Impact Fund help support local programs that help feed families. Just $20 a week can help provide 3,000 meals to families and individuals who don’t have enough to eat at home.
