Congratulations to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on the delivery of a new $20-million state-of-the-art shaft lathe! This is the fourth of eight planned for procurement under the Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program to increase maintenance capacity and capability at the four U.S. naval shipyards in order to meet the Navy's nuclear-powered fleet maintenance requirements. SIOP has completed over 50 facilities projects, totaling over $1.8 billion, including utilities, flood protection, and training facilities. More than 300 items of industrial plant equipment, valued at nearly $750 million, have been delivered, including new cranes, faster and more precise shaft lathes, 5-axis routers, and precision cutting machines. ,
