The Tale of Two Lug Nuts

I’ll preface this story with make sure your “mechanic” knows what he’s doing or this could happen to you. Choosing the right parts and installing them correctly should always be done by a professional. I’m not talking about your buddy’s cousins uncle that does work once in a while in their driveway.

This mechanic installed the black spline drive lug nuts on this car. The proper lug nuts on the silver shank lug nuts.

This did NOT last very long and ended up in a wheel off situation. Luckily no one was hurt and it came off at very low speeds and there was minimal damage considering. But if this happened at highway speeds it could’ve been deadly.
