Ellie here, owner at 4XF. I just walked past my head technician and overheard him correcting our newest technician. He said:

"No, you're not risking damaging that brake line just to run a nut down faster; that's not how this works."

It reminded me of how common it is to cut corners in the auto industry. It takes tons of time, energy, and money (we're talking YEARS) to break new technicians of bad habits and get them where we feel their workmanship meets our standards, but even still;

There will never be a time when another shop's poor standards become ours.

Trust me, it would be more profitable and a hell of a lot easier, but we're here for a good time, not a long time, and truthfully, it feels awful to push subpar work out the door. My husband and I would lose sleep thinking about a customer who trusted us to do the right thing, only for us to return a vehicle worse than when we took it in.

Unfortunately, in other shops, that happens all the time.
