There’s something about teak done properly.
These custom companionway steps were built from the ground up—designed to fit the space, match the vessel’s interior, and stand up to life at sea. Clean lines, balanced proportions, and a finish that highlights the natural grain of the wood.
It’s not just a set of steps—it’s a detail that defines the feel of the entire cabin.
Total Refit brings classic yachts back to life through true craftsmanship, custom woodwork, and attention to every last detail. ⚓

Custom teak work, built for both beauty and function.
This passerelle refit showcases a full set of hand-crafted teak treads, precision-cut and laid with classic black caulking lines—true to traditional yacht decking standards. Each panel was dry-fit, templated, and bonded using marine-grade adhesives, then carefully clamped and aligned to ensure consistent spacing, symmetry, and long-term durability under load and exposure.
From raw stock to finished installation, every detail matters—grain selection, edge joinery, caulking seams, and final finishing—all executed to complement the structure of the passerelle while elevating its aesthetic to match the heritage of a proper yacht.
The result: a seamless blend of modern composite structure and timeless teak craftsmanship, delivering both grip underfoot and unmistakable classic character.

Some boats aren’t just vessels. They are more than wood and fasteners — they’re memory, legacy, and time on the water.
Built by hand. Passed down. Weathered by time.
Neglected in places… but never without a story worth saving.
We see more than rot, loose fasteners, or tired varnish.
We see legacy. Craft. History waiting for another generation on the water.
Because this work isn’t just repair —
it’s stewardship.
It’s preservation.
It’s giving a boat the chance to outlive us all.
If you have a wooden boat that deserves another chapter, let’s save her together.

Every classic wooden yacht carries a memory in her grain — in the bend of her frames, the curve of her sheer, the quiet strength beneath her decks.
This refit began where all honest restorations do: below the surface. The yacht was scaffolded and blocked so we could reach her properly — not just to make her look beautiful, but to make her sound again. Damaged deck core and compromised plywood were removed, framing inspected, and the subdeck rebuilt with precision. What had softened with time and moisture is being made strong again, one layer at a time.
New marine panels are templated and fitted. Teak decking is laid with traditional king plank and margin board geometry, each seam aligned, each plank set to carry water, weather, and years of footfall. This is not cosmetic work — it is structure, longevity, and respect.
In the process, we uncovered rot, delamination, and the quiet fatigue that only decades at sea can create. These are the moments that define a refit. Not what you see at first glance, but what you choose to restore when no one else would notice.
Along the side decks and bulwarks, brightwork is being brought back to life — varnish layered deep, protecting the mahogany while honoring its warmth and character. The original lines remain untouched, the soul of the yacht intact, strengthened by modern techniques beneath the surface.
This is the stewardship of wooden boats.
Not just repair — preservation.
Not just craftsmanship — responsibility.
Because these vessels are more than hulls and fasteners. They are legacy. They are history you can still step aboard.
If you’re entrusted with a classic yacht and want the work done with reverence, technical precision, and a deep understanding of wooden construction, we’re here for that conversation.
Restoration is not about making a boat new.
It’s about making sure her story continues.

A classic wooden vessel carries her history in the grain. Every plank remembers the water. Every fastener tells time.
Some boats are built to serve a season.
Others are built to carry history.
The Honey Fitz has done both.
In these images, the refit unfolds slowly and deliberately—deck layers lifted not in haste, but in respect, revealing sound structure beneath. Teak is laid again, plank by plank, seams set with care to allow for movement, drainage, and the quiet working of wood at sea. Nothing forced. Nothing rushed.
Below, interior joinery takes shape: stair treads dry-fit and aligned, bulkheads brought back into true, cabinetry rebuilt with matched grain so new work disappears seamlessly into old. This is not replacement—it is continuation.
Along the sheer, covering boards are laminated, cap rails shaped and faired until the vessel’s original lines return—confident, balanced, unmistakably hers. Brightwork is restored through disciplined varnish schedules and hand-finished detail, where patience matters as much as skill.
All of it done within a controlled enclosure, protecting timber, tolerances, and finishes—because preservation demands precision as much as passion.
This is the kind of restoration reserved for heirlooms.
For boats passed down, not traded in. For owners who understand that stewardship means honoring how a vessel was built, how she moves, and how she is meant to endure.
If you are the caretaker of a classic wooden yacht, riverboat, or traditionally built vessel and are considering her next chapter, Total Refit would be honored to help write it—with the same care, craftsmanship, and respect she’s earned. ⚓️
