Meet Barnaby! He is a two year old basset-pit mix we think! He is such a great little dog. A medium breed, he weighs in about 35 lbs. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and because another organization assumed this cost his adoption fee is reduced. Barnaby came to us after a large shelter environment did a number on him. He began resource guarding and growling at other dogs. He went into an in-home foster and was GREAT! Sleeping in bed with the couple, going for walks, playing with toys. He came here and was immediately anxious about the other dogs. In two weeks though, he has figured out Fly and her babies have no desire to take his food, toys or go in his house. In other words, he has no reason to be insecure and all that behavior has greatly diminished. In fact, he desperately wants to play with Fly. We think in a neutral setting like a dog park he will therefore do great with other dogs or meeting them on leash during walks. We do still recommend he be an only dog/pet in the home he goes to. He wants to chase chickens, cats, goats,.etc.
We are proud of the progress he has made in our open air kennel where other dogs barking does not reverberate off the walls 24/7 but we KNOW his full potential will only be unlocked when someone takes him own and makes them their own short stacked little boy!
We had quite a bit of pulling onleash when he first came but after switching to the 2 Hounds Freedom Harness set up, that has dissipated as well. He still is pretty excited when first coming out of the kennel but again, if he has a home and walks are come place or a yard to run in, that will abate as his walk each morning wont be nearly as big a deal.
Barnaby is a special boy and does need a patient hand and someone who will give him that grace to learn to be a pet. The person who does that will get a heck of a good boy.
Come meet this boy tomorrow at our adoption and market event between 11 and 3 (Saturday) here at First Ladies Farm and Sanctuary

Folks! If younare in the market for a pocket pooch? We have THREE great candidates right now!
Nickle and Dime (bother and sister) are just 6-8 months old, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go! The little girl has started her heartworm treatment and we will continue to fund that after she goes home with you through our vet. It is not a difficult process. Her brother is heartworm negative! These two are working hard at potty training and have done great considering they lived wild and free outside all of their lives. They've had an accident or two when left to long. They are puppies. You SHOULD expect that in a small breed puppy for up to their first year. They are about 10 lbs each.
Tiny Peso is only 3 months old. She is too young to heartworm test but is otherwise ready to go with spay, vaccines, microchip.
These are wonderful dogs. They stay right with me all over the house and yard, not running off. When I cannot find them, I whistle and off they pop from wherever they were! They love all comers: dogs, cats, children, adults. They tend to chase the chickens but correct easy and return to me on command.
These are great little dogs! They are $400 with everything included. All medical, puppy kits, 30 days Trupanion Insurance, one virtual training session and nearly $100 in local toys, treats and food coupons when you take your First Ladies Farm and Sanctuary to Earthwise of Valrico on Lithia.
Come meet them between 11 and 3 Saturday, here at the Farm.

A year ago this week, these two boys were dumped in Triple Creek Park along Balm Boyette Road. I used to ride my mountain bike out there many years ago and dubbed them Stumpjumper and Rockhopper after the two Specialized mountain bike models. It was a super frustrating case because we HAD VIDEO of the woman dumping them. We offered and PAID a $500 reward for information and TWO independent women came forward with not ONLY her name but her FB Messenger correspondence to them from when she was selling the whole litter, complete with photos of these pups. We did the hard work. We paid out $1000 in rewards, had screenshots, witness statements and video complete with license plate. We left multiple messages for the investigator with Hillsborough County Animal Control and nothing. Not even a return phone call.
Everyone says "We need laws to protect animals!" Governor DeSantis parades around after incidents acting like he has done something. But when push comes to shove?
No one can be bothered to prosecute. So it has become our lesson. We will keep reporting dumpers here at our property and elsewhere in the community when we have the evidence but we will expect nothing.
We will continue to focus on what we CAN do and that is this!
Rockhopper, now Bingo, one year later! We adopted him to our favorite concrete guy, Charlie! Look at him now? He is beautiful!
From dumped to loved. That's the part we can control.
