Sylvan Learning of Riverside
There's something unforgettable about waking up in the middle of the night to the glow of the television. It's a memory many of us share, and one that still feels strangely familiar today.
Here are 5 practical tips to help you mentally disconnect from the clock and fully reconnect with your family tonight:
1️⃣ The Costume Change: The second you punch out, physically change your clothes. Sweatpants, a t-shirt, anything that isn't your "work uniform." It sends a powerful neurological signal to your brain that the production day is officially over.
2️⃣ The 10-Minute Decompression Buffer: Before you jump straight into making dinner or parenting logistics, take 10 minutes entirely to yourself to sit in silence, listen to one song, or stretch. Flush the work adrenaline before you greet your family.
3️⃣ The "Device Daycare": Create a physical parking spot for your phone or laptop that is out of sight (like a basket in the entryway or a drawer). If you aren't constantly hearing pings or seeing the screen light up, your brain can finally settle into the living room.
4️⃣ The "Brain Dump" Post-It: Before closing your laptop, write down the top 3 things you need to handle tomorrow on a sticky note. Physically placing that note on your desk lets your brain "store" the stress safely so you don't have to keep chewing on it all night.
5️⃣ The "Eye-Contact" Welcome: When you first see your kids or partner at the end of the day, stop whatever you are doing, look them in the eyes, and give them a 20-second hug. It instantly floods your system with oxytocin, drops your cortisol, and anchors you directly into the present moment.
Our goal at Sylvan is to take the stress of schoolwork and tutoring off your plate, so that when you do park your devices and change out of your work clothes, you can focus on what matters most: just being there for your kids. 💙
Making room for giant breakthroughs.

If you're a mom, I really hope you hear this today because someone probably forgot to tell you.
You're doing better than you think. Not because you have all the answers, and definitely not because every day goes according to plan.
Let's be honest. Some days are just hard. The lunches aren't perfect, homework turns into a battle, the house gets messy, dinner ends up being whatever's quickest.
By the time your head finally hits the pillow, you're sitting there wondering, "Did I do enough today?"
You did.
You really did.
Your child doesn't need a perfect mom. They need you. The days you question yourself the most are usually the days you're trying the hardest.
Being exhausted doesn't mean you're failing. It usually means you've been carrying more than anyone else can see.
Your child probably won't remember whether every lunch looked perfect or whether every homework assignment was finished exactly on time. But they will remember how safe they felt around you.
So if nobody has told you today, thank you. For every invisible thing you do. For every little sacrifice nobody notices.
Because even if they don't always know how to say it, what you do matters.
