What is your Home Ground?

The images in "From Here to the Horizon: Photographs in Honor of Barry Lopez," The Barry Lopez Foundation's currently on view at UCR ARTS California Museum of Photography, were chosen in conversation with "Home Ground: A Guide to the American Landscape," the topographic dictionary edited by Lopez and Debra Gwartney.

Visit https://ow.ly/uUWg50Zetb9 to submit a photograph, painting, drawing or map of your home ground - where you were raised, where you feel most at home, or where you most like to be - and a few sentences about why it matters to you. We'll post your replies over the coming month.

Opening July 18! Memory is rarely a precise record of the past; rather, it is a creative act of reconstruction. This understanding of memory’s fluid nature is a hallmark of Marcel Proust’s writing, the source of the exhibition’s title and frequent inspiration for artist Won Ju Lim.

Won Ju Lim: The Vast Structure of Recollection brings together three chapters of Lim’s artistic practice. The exhibition includes Proustian Bedrooms, That Sense of Complexity…, and a new site-specific installation. Created especially for this exhibition, a new installation investigates the physical and spectral traces of the gallery itself–a former turn-of-the-century Rouse’s department store–exploring the museum site as a repository for residues of the past.
