How long should your pool pump be running everyday?

In general, single speed pumps should be running at least 8 hours per day.

Variable speed pool pumps should run longer, based upon the operating speed. Most pool owners run their variable speed pump for 12 hours per day (3-4 hours on high speed for the pool cleaning system and 8-9 hours on low speed for filtration).

This is a general guideline as every pool must turn over at least once a day, so actual time varies depending on size of the pool, size of the pump, pool use, and weather conditions.
