A Symphony of Laughter and Pure Joy: The Playground at Golda Meir Academy is Officially Open for Adventure

The students at Golda Meir Academy (GMA) in Kitikpa, Ghana received a surprise when they went to school on Monday and discovered that playground equipment was being installed on the school grounds. By Wednesday, they were enjoying the new swing sets, seesaws, monkey bars, and canopy walk. Seeing the students light up with joy on the new playground reminds us why play is an essential building block for human development.

This wonderful addition to the school completes the upgrades to GMA that have taken place over the last couple of years. We are abundantly grateful to the donors who have given the children the gift of joyful playtime, and especially thankful to Steve Cochran who transformed the school from floor to roof and constructed new toilets, urinals, and handwashing stations to improve sanitary measures for students and teachers.

Esther Yayra Elewokor—also known as Akosombo Girl—is a former Dream On scholarship recipient who graduated from BlueCrest College with a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication. She is now a humanitarian who is making a powerful impact in Ghanaian communities through storytelling and fundraising for a number of educational, healthcare, and human rights initiatives.

Nusi and Fafa lost their mother recently to kidney disease, and the girls are now in the care of their grandfather who is ill and struggling to provide for them. Dream On helped to support Esther’s mission to provide clothing, toiletries, school uniforms, backpacks, and haircuts for the sisters.

There are three videos and we have posted them in reverse order so that you are seeing the day Nusi and Fafa received their gifts first; however, please take a look at the other videos for the full story. We are so proud of the work that Esther is doing to heal and enrich the lives of vulnerable children in Ghana. Please follow Esther on Instagram and TikTok .
