Yesterday I did an inspection for an agent who wasn’t comfortable with the report they received from another inspection company. This is the second inspection I have done behind this inspector in 2 weeks. First time termites were missed in the crawlspace and wood rot to a porch. Twice thy did the inspection, once before the home was remodeled and after the remodel.) This one was called out as powder post beetles. This is not powder post beetle holes! By size of the holes and appearance this appears to be Long-horned beetles. The damage inside the posts on the back was extensive. The post was filled with a rubber product yet my screwdriver went straight through the post. None of us are perfect and we all make mistakes. What I do see is lack of training. There are resources out there to learn and grow from and plenty of inspectors who are willing to lend their knowledge when we get stumped.

Black witch moth, biggest moth I’ve ever seen.

According to folklore, if the black witch flies into your field of view, it conveys a curse from an enemy. If it flies over your head, it will cause your hair to fall out. If it flies into your home when you are sick, you will not get well. You will die.

On a happier note, if the black witch appears before you after someone has died, it represents the soul of the person returning to bid you farewell. Should one alight on you, you will become rich.

Should one land above the door of your home, you will win the lottery.
