Baskervill

The new Chesapeake Bay Hall at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science replaces an underperforming facility with a 68,000-square-foot nexus modeled after the environment it exists to study. Taking cues from the interconnected nature of coastal ecosystems, the program links specialized wet and dry laboratories through transparent circulation and shared spaces. That same ecological thinking shapes the architecture, translating the surrounding landscape into built form.
