The Google algorithm has been a boon and a bane for marketers over the years.

The most major change in the last couple years: AI Overviews. User questions are answered directly on the search results page. Helpful for users, brutal for marketing numbers. Click throughs have dropped, but here’s the kicker: it’s not the end of SEO. It’s the end of lazy SEO (darn).

- AI will happily summarize generic listicles.
- What it can’t steal is your unique insight, original research, case studies, or community-driven content.
- If you’re still 100% reliant on Google traffic, you’re in trouble.

The right play? Diversify.

Build presence on YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, newsletters. Create content that people seek out, not just stumble on. And when they land on your site, make it count. First-party data, strong CTAs, real engagement.

The traffic game isn’t dying. It’s just evolving.

What do you think: are AI Overviews a threat, or just a long-overdue push toward better content?

From his first day writing clean code to leading our dev team through launches, rebrands, and the occasional fire drill, John has been the steady hand and sharp mind behind so much of our web work. He’s not just a Web Developmer, he’s a competitive trivia champ (his random fact game is legendary), an award-winning homebrewer, and most impressively a dad of two!

We’re grateful for the care he puts into every detail, whether it’s refactoring a component or refining a pilsner. His curiosity, precision, and intensity have shaped the team and made us better.

Cheers to 9 years, John. We hope Ana’s ready for another competitive showdown soon. 🍻
