Due to the poor air quality and to ensure the safety of Team 50/50 and the community, we have made the decision to postpone our 3rd Sunday Feeding and Health Fair.

The event will now take place on Sunday, August 16, our next 3rd Sunday.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone on August 16.

Team 50/50 will conduct a weekly wellness check on 7-20-26 with 4 families who help support 3rd Sunday Feeding and provide cleaning and hygiene products during the wellness check.

The Community 50/50 Lyrics and Beats One-on-One Mentoring Program is a youth mentoring initiative offered by Community 50/50, a Richmond, Virginia-based nonprofit. The program uses hip-hop, songwriting, music analysis, and creative expression as tools to help young people build confidence, communication skills, emotional awareness, and critical thinking.

According to Community 50/50, the program is designed to:

Provide one-on-one mentoring tailored to each participant's goals and needs.
Use lyrics and beats to encourage discussions about emotions, relationships, decision-making, and life experiences. Team 50/50 help youth strengthen skills such as self-expression, conflict resolution, leadership, and positive communication.

Support academic success, improved behavior, and school engagement through arts-based mentoring.

The organization's founder, Zenobia Bey (Zbeythapoet), has explained that the program evolved from a "Hip Hop Critical Thinking Workshop." One signature activity involves removing the music from a song and analyzing only the lyrics, encouraging participants to think critically about the messages they consume and how those messages influence their attitudes and behavior.

The curriculum also incorporates the traditional elements of hip-hop culture—including DJing, MCing, graffiti, breakdancing, and knowledge—to teach broader life skills.

The mentoring program is part of Community 50/50's broader mission, which focuses on three pillars:

Education
Mental health
Community support and Wrap-around resource support

In addition to mentoring, the nonprofit provides community services such as food drives, clothing drives, partnerships with schools, and access to licensed mental health professionals.
