We would like to thank the Rhinelander City Council for approving the purchase, the citizens of Rhinelander for supporting, and the State of WI for partially funding our newest ambulance. Our new 9-1 went into service this morning after passing the DOT inspection. We look forward to continuing to provide the absolute best service possible to our taxpayers and surrounding communities when called upon. Thank you!!

The Burn Ban in the City of Rhinelander has been rescinded.

All properties in the city are required to apply for an annual burn permit prior to burning.

Permits are free and can be found here:

Please burn responsibly.

Thank you for doing your part!

Due to a “very high” Fire danger, and near critical fire weather conditions all burning in the City of Rhinelander is to be suspended until further notice. Please call the Fire Dept for questions or concerns.

Most of northern Wisconsin will be seeing Very High fire danger through the weekend.

If you are in an area of Very High fire danger, stay vigilant and avoid outdoor burning. Embers from any fire, especially burn piles and campfires, can easily get out of control and cause a wildfire if not properly extinguished. Outdoor enthusiasts should also be extra careful with off-road vehicles or equipment that can create a spark and start a fire. With dry weather conditions across much of the state, fires can spark at any time.

Remember to check fire conditions before conducting outdoor burning activities: https://apps.dnr.wi.gov/wisburn/ #/

Also, a lot of your Fire and EMS departments are out running call to call. Please give them space to work and move over for emergency response vehicles. Please be safe and check on your neighbors due to the power outages.

Just a couple reminders on this icy day: 1. You are required by law to stop at a non-working traffic light whether or not the stop signs are extended. A faulty traffic light is to be treated as a stop sign. 2. If you must go out in this weather, call ahead to see if the store is open. Currently both Walmart and Aldi are closed.
