Madison Fire Department

Around 2:30 pm we were notified by Jefferson County that they had a brush fire on their side of the river with the likelihood that it could spread to Madison County's side of the river. It did indeed jump the river in the area of 3300 W on Madison's side. Regional mutual aid was requested to help fight the fire on both sides of the river in Jefferson County and Madison County. We have brush trucks, water tenders, overhead personnel, law enforcement, and even a SAR boat to help ferry firefighters to the fire's location. Access on Madison's side is very difficult. The size of the fire on Jefferson's side is around 15 acres, and we're still determining the current size of the fire on Madison's side. This burn resulted from a controlled burn that got out of control. Homes in the immediate area have been notified of the "Ready" evacuation status, to be "ready" to evacuate if necessary.
