The Backyard Flora

Morgan here!
I’ve worked for McKenna for almost a year and I thought it would be fun to share some reasons why I decided to work for McKenna!
🌸
I’ve been interested in plants for a long time and I gained a love for flowers from taking classes at BYU Idaho! Because of these two passions, I was super interested when I learned about cut flower farms!! Growing plants and arranging flowers seemed ideal!
🌸
McKenna came to one of my seminar classes and I was super interested to learn that there was a cut flower farm right here in Rexburg! She also discussed how she uses eco-conscious practices in her farm! In many of my classes I’ve learned about the benefits of using more eco friendly practices for the plant industry and environment. Being conscious of our impact on the environment and doing your best to decrease our impact is important to me!
🌸
McKenna does a great job of being eco conscious by not using harmful pesticides and herbicides in garnering practices and other practices such as using cover crops to improve soil health! I’ve really enjoyed learning more about different eco friendly practices from McKenna as I’ve worked with her! I’m excited to continue learning and look forward to applying that knowledge to my own garden someday! McKenna does a great job of applying eco friendly practices and I’m so glad I get to learn from her and experience it all first hand! 🌸

Those of you students/Rexburgians who are engaged or are about to be engaged: I do DIY buckets of flowers for weddings!
•
I LOVE WEDDINGS, but unfortunately, at this stage in my life I don’t have the bandwidth to be a full service florist on your big day.
•
These buckets are a win-win for all of us. I can design the bridal bouquet (if you prefer) and give you buckets in your specified color pallet to make bouts, centerpieces, arches etc.
•
DIY buckets save me a lot of time, and therefore, save you a lot of money because you don’t get charged a design fee (outside of the bridal bouquet).
•
Hiring a florist would obviously be a dream for most people. They charge design fees because their skills are acquired and WORTH every penny. If you hire a florist you’re investing in an insurance policy that guarantees everything will be taken care of and you won’t have to lift a finger. But sometimes that extra money just isn’t in the budget. 🤷🏼♀️
•
If you’re getting married between May and mid September, and have a friend or family member who is interested in floristry that can help you out with putting stems in vases, making corsages etc, send me a message with inspiration photos for your day and I can get you a quote.
•
YouTube is full of tutorials on how to make boutonnières, corsages, arches, centerpieces, isle pieces and more. Watch a few and see if it’s something you would be comfortable with.
•
Every flower you receive would be grown by me (with the odds and ends being sourced from other SE Idaho growers). They’ll likely be picked only a day or two before your wedding so you know they’ll be perky and long lasting.
•
If you do decide to go with a traditional florist, message me for recommendations. I know almost every florist in SE Idaho and can give you tips on who could serve you best.
•
took this beautiful photo. (Check out her account for your wedding photography needs. She does great work!)
•
The food and the company won't last forever, but what will are the photos that include your venue and florals. So if it were me, I would prioritize those three things in my budget first (photography, venue, florals). What would you prioritize?
