Happy Metrics Monday! 🐾
Population & Capacity
As of 7pm Sunday, June 14th, we have 696 animals in our care – 28 more animals from the previous week. We have 53 at our Carson Campus, 279 at our Reno Campus, and 364 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 39% capacity, and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 68% capacity.
Intakes
245 animals came into our campuses last week. NHS received 57 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (seven less animals from the previous week), 25 Strays (four more than the previous week) and 75 Strays too young for adoption (37 more from the previous week). We transferred 50 cats and 21 dogs from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services. 14 cats and three dogs and two cats were transferred from other partners.
Outcomes
129 cats, 46 dogs, and three small animals were adopted last week – this is six more cats, 17 less dogs and one less small animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite six dogs and one cat with their owners (three more dogs compared to the previous week).
15 animals were humanely euthanized last week; 13 were due to illness, injuries or quality of life, and two were due to behavior. As the community’s safety net, we take these decisions to heart. They are made only when all other options have been exhausted, and always with kindness, respect, and the goal of preventing suffering. These moments are incredibly difficult for our team; each one weighs heavily, as our staff care deeply about every animal that comes through our doors.
Community Support
Last week we received 27 surrender requests for cats and 72 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was five days for cats and six days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.

Join us on a Dog Date with Snowball. ❤️
From trail sniffs and creekside adventures to lunch by the lake (and a little questionable car karaoke), Snowball spent the day showing us what a wonderful companion he is.
The best part?
The day after his adventure, Snowball found his family. 🏡
Not every pet finds a home right away, but every pet deserves the chance to be seen. Programs like Dog Dates help shelter pets get a break from the kennel, enjoy some one-on-one time, and show off their personalities.
Take a look at our adoptable pets or visit our Reno and Carson City campuses—you never know who might be waiting for someone just like you. 🐾
