As we start get ready for all the 4th grade California History tours coming this spring, we want to take a moment to honor and celebrate the incredible contributions of Chinese immigrants in history!

Did you know that thousands of Chinese immigrants played a crucial role in shaping California during the Gold Rush (1848–1855)? 🇨🇳⛏️🏆

Arriving with hopes of prosperity, Chinese miners worked tirelessly in goldfields, often reworking abandoned claims and finding success through skill and perseverance. But their contributions went far beyond mining! They established businesses, restaurants, and supply shops. Nearly 90% of the labor building the Transcontinental Railroad in the Sierra Mountains 🚂 were Chinese immigrants. Their contributions helped shape California’s history and economy as we know it today!
