Authenticity > Vibes

SOFLETE is an interesting business. We straddle an intersection of human performance and shooting at the pinnacle of where it matters most. Our most important customers are the quietest- still doing the deed asking less than they are giving.

As the world evolves we need to pursue innovation without losing sight of the lessons learned in the past. When looking at new kit, training methods, or TTP’s, we must ask the questions “what problem is this solving, what am I losing, what am I gaining?”

On my first AFG deployment a teammate had the cables for his presser pads ripped out on a partially failed breach. With zero illumination he had serious issues getting through the breach and getting the rest of the team in- luckily it was unopposed and he lived to fight another day. Since then I’ve never had a pressure pad on my gun, I just manipulated my lasers manually. Being tall makes this easier. But I never once felt like I was leaving anything on the table having less s**t on my rifle.

I used an EoTech on my rifle from 2008-2020 with zero issues- then killed 3 Eotech’s in 2 weeks. I switched to Aimpoint at that time and have not looked back.

At various times I’ve been mad I didn’t have a faster optic, and I’ve also been mad that I couldn’t reach out further. The best bet is having both, but the idea of being slow up close is a lot scarier than the idea of being slow at distance or out of range.

Your guns and kit shouldn’t change massively very often. Once something is working very well, you should be highly critical of changing it. Anyone who says otherwise is selling you something.

If you can’t run a 5k with the things you intend to use the in field without malfunction, it’s not a useful piece of kit in the real world. This includes ambi mag releases and controls, mag carriers, and s**t hanging off you.

Lastly, if you can’t physically run a 5k with the things you intend to carry; then kit considerations are the last thing you should be focused on.

This isn’t a game but it is a race. Train accordingly.
