I want to share something tragic that happened to my friend with all my pet sitting clients purely as a warning. She is the best dog mom that I have ever known and she goes above and beyond to care for her animals. Like many of us her animals are truly her children. Thursday she tragically lost one of her kids. When she came home later that afternoon Harley was gone. He died of suffocation in a 20lbs cat bag. I want to make this tragic accident at least make a difference. So with Harley's death I want to spread awareness. I never want anyone else to have to go through such a horrible way to say goodbye to your fur baby.
🐾Pets suffocate in chip and snack bags literally every day. It takes as few as 3–5 minutes for a dog or cat rummaging through a bag for crumbs to asphyxiate.
🐾It can happen to any pet, regardless of their size, age, or strength; and it can, and has, happened even when the pet owners are in the same home, maybe even in the next room over.
🐾This danger is not the result of neglect or carelessness — even experienced, loving pet owners have lost beloved pets.
🐾90% of people who lost or almost lost a pet to suffocation were unaware of or had never realized the possibility that their pet could suffocate in a chip, snack, cereal, or other food bag until it happened!

Where Pets are Finding These Bags
In or near the home trash can or recycling (32%)
Grabbed off a coffee table or side table (21%)
Grabbed off a counter (11%)
Found under a bed (7%)

The Biggest Suffocation Hazards to Pets
Snack (e.g., cracker, popcorn, etc.) or chip bags (69%)
Cereal bags (8%)
Pet Food bags (8%)
Pet Treat bags (5%)

Thank you so much for making yourself aware of something that no one should have to go through.

Harley you were an amazing dog, special beyond words and you will be missed every day by everyone that was touched by your sweet soul. Rest in peace little buddy, see you on the other side!

I stumbled across a really cool travel tip for Navigate Your Travels and I had to share it to my favorite pet sitting group! It was a great idea to travel and play with people's animals! Could be a great way to get your animals watched while you go an explore as well.
