URSA would like to congratulate the winners of the 2023 Staff & Faculty Halloween Costume Contest. Over 160 people voted this year! Although there is only one trophy for each category, voting was so incredibly close—the department winner was selected by one vote—and we wanted to call out all of our top entries.

Best individual costume:

Ken Grcich: Snow White

Best department costume:

Student Affairs: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Human Resources: Toy Story

This Halloween, URSA invites staff and faculty to participate in a Halloween mingle event and costume contest!

Please join us at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, in the Casa Loma Room for a costume fashion show and light refreshments. You do not need to wear a costume to participate in the event.

The costume contest will be held virtually. You do not need to attend the in-person event to enter. To participate:

On Tuesday, October 31, wear a workplace-appropriate costume*
Take a photo of yourself and/or your department
Send the image to [email protected] by 5 p.m.


There will be two options to win:

Best department theme
Best costume


Winners will receive a trophy to be held for the year and bragging rights.



Voting:

Once photos are collected, we will post them and open a link to an anonymous survey on the URSA website for the University Community to vote for the winner. Voting will open November 1 and close at 5 p.m. on November 7.



The winners will be announced November 8.



*Note on costumes:

In addition to following University safety policies, participants should make costume choices that respect the diverse population of the University of Redlands community. Costumes should not misappropriate the iconography of other cultures, perpetuate demeaning or harmful stereotypes, or use traditional regalia in ways that misrepresent others’ identities or traditions. We strongly recommend attendance at the Native American Student Union’s “Culture, Not Costume” event at 5–10 p.m. on October 26 in Orton Center.

Este Halloween, URSA invita a toda la facultad y personal de la universidad a participar en un evento de mezcla de Halloween y un concurso de disfraces!



Únanse a nosotros el martes 31 de octubre de 2023 a las 10 a. m. en Casa Loma Room para un desfile de disfraces y refrescos. No es necesario disfrazarse para participar en el evento.



El concurso de disfraces se realizará de manera virtual. No es necesario asistir el evento en persona para participar. Para participar:

Se anunciará los ganadores el 8 de noviembre.



*Nota sobre los disfraces:

Además de seguir las políticas de seguridad de la Universidad, los participantes deben elegir disfraces que respetan a la población diversa de la comunidad de la universidad de Redlands. Los disfraces no deben apropiarse indebidamente de la iconografía de otras culturas, perpetuar estereotipos degradantes o dañosos, ni usar atuendos tradicionales de manera que tergiversen las identidades o tradiciones de otros. Recomendamos encarecidamente asistir al evento “Cultura, no Disfraz” de la Unión de Estudiantes Nativo-americanos de 5 a 10 p.m. el 26 de octubre en Orton Center.

URSA invites all University Community members to the U of R Makerspace Thursday, May 11 from 4–6 p.m. for a celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.

The Makerspace, located in Room 112 at the Armacost Library Building, is an open space to participate in experiential learning using immersive technologies. For this event, you can make laser cut leis, paint flags of Asian and Pacific Island nations, learn hula, and see student-created animatronic presentations.

URSA invita a todos los miembros de la comunidad universitaria al Makerspace de la Universidad de Redlands el jueves 11 de mayo a las 6 p.m. para una celebración del Mes de la Herencia de los Isleños del Pacifico Asiático-Americanos (AAPI).

El Makerspace, ubicado en el salón 112 en el primer piso del edificio de la biblioteca Armacost, es un espacio abierto para participar en el aprendizaje experiencial utilizado tecnologías intensivas. Para este evento, puede hacer leis cortados con láser, pintar banderas de naciones asiáticos e islas del Pacifico, aprender hula y ver presentaciones animatrónicas creadas por estudiantes.
