LTC Residents Are Not Children

Residents in long-term care are adults with a lifetime of experiences, choices, and rights. They deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and autonomy, not spoken to or treated as children.

Person-centered care means honoring each resident’s preferences, supporting independence, and involving them in decisions about their daily lives. Respecting these rights is essential to maintaining dignity and quality of life.

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman program advocates for residents’ rights and works to ensure every individual is treated with respect and their voice is heard.

If you or a loved one have concerns about care or how residents are being treated, support is available.

Contact your local Ombudsman at 530-229-1435 or 1-800-231-4024 | Crisis Line open 24 hours a day
