There will likely be an additional round of PPP loans available for businesses in the near future. Secretary Munchin suggested that Congress would reauthorize the program to allow for a second PPP check to go out to the businesses hardest hit by the pandemic. The Secretary discussed a revenue test to ensure that businesses that receive future loans must actually need them. Congress has three weeks before recess to come to an agreement on a new PPP plan to help small businesses, coupled with a new economic stimulus package that would assist individuals during these challenging times. Senate passes extension of application deadline for PPP small-business loans 07/02/2020

With unanimous consent, the Senate passed legislation that would keep the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) alive and give the Small Business Association authority to continue approving PPP loans through August 8th, 2020. The bill has been sent to the House where it is expected to be passed and then sent to the President’s desk to be signed into law. The new deadline is August 8th, chosen because it marks the end of the Senate’s next work period and legislators hope they can pass the next economic relief package within that time.
