Self-employed borrowers don't always show their actual income on tax returns. Accountants get creative and write everything off and they pay taxes on that bottom line income. The downside is when they apply for a mortgage that small bottom line income is all that can be used. Not with a bank statement loan. We use an average of 12 months business deposits to qualify them which will put them in a much higher approval amount.
