Today, flags will fly proudly across our neighborhoods, schools, businesses and homes as we celebrate Flag Day.
The American flag reminds us that we are part of something greater than ourselves. May we continue working together to build a stronger future for the next generation.
🇺🇸 Happy Flag Day!

I had a wonderful time celebrating the 75th annual Shoemakersville Children’s Parade and Fair this past weekend. This cherished tradition directly supports the Shoemakersville Recreation Board, which funds a free summer program for local youth. I am thrilled by the event’s success and look forward to many more years of celebrating our wonderful community!

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is holding one-day Junior Game Warden Camps across the Commonwealth, providing those who attend a structured, fun-filled day learning about the career of a Pennsylvania state game warden.
One of the camps will be held on Friday, July 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area Visitor Center, 100 Museum Road, Stevens.
Campers will spend the day with game wardens, gaining insight into the job and the Game Commission’s mission of managing and protecting the state’s wildlife and habitats while promoting hunting and trapping. Campers will join wardens in light physical fitness activities, confidence-building exercises, hands-on learning stations and more.
The program is open to youths ages 12-15 who have not attended a camp held previously. Registration can be completed online here: https://www.register-ed.com/programs/pennsylvania/224-youth-camps

Working to protect taxpayers from fraud, the House Human Services Committee voted to transition the older swipe EBT cards to chip-enabled cards, much like modern debit and credit cards. The upgraded, more secure cards will protect against skimming, when a device placed by scammers on a credit card machine steals vital card information used to fraudulently spend funds. These scams cost taxpayers millions and jeopardize access to food for those receiving the benefits.
I joined fellow committee members in passing House Bill 2540, sponsored by the Republican and Democrat chairs of the committee, unanimously. It goes to the full House for consideration.

On this anniversary of D-Day, we remember the courage of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Their bravery changed the course of history and secured the freedoms we cherish today. We honor the heroes who gave everything in defense of liberty. May we never forget their sacrifice.

A Pennsylvania law banning the use of handheld devices while driving has been in effect since last June, with violators being issued warnings. Starting June 5, violators will face fines.
Paul Miller’s Law limits the use of handheld cell phones or other communications devices while operating a motor vehicle. The statute is named for a young man who was killed in a crash involving a distracted tractor-trailer driver in Monroe County in 2010.
On June 5, violators will be issued a summary offense, which carries a $50 fine, plus court costs and other fees. If a driver is convicted of homicide by vehicle and driving while distracted, he/she may be sentenced up to an additional five years in prison.
Drivers can still use phones if employing hands-free technology, such as a docking station, Bluetooth, or speaker. You may also use your phone to contact emergency responders.
According to PennDOT, more than 11,000 crashes resulted from distracted driving in 2023, leading to 65 deaths and 6,700 injuries. Pennsylvania joins 28 other states with hands-free laws.

I stand with our proud law enforcement community. Sheriffs from across the Commonwealth, including Berks County Sheriff’s Mandy Miller, who is to the left of me in the above picture, were at the Capitol today to garner support from the Legislature. It was great to meet so many brave men and women who serve their communities.
