Reading POWIR

Today we are thankful for our Afghan family who is here safely and to the amazing support we have received from the community. Thank you Mission of Deeds! 🙏🏽❤️

Reading POWIR is happy to announce that we have been assigned an Afghan family who may be arriving at almost any moment! “Our” family consists of four adults, including retired parents and an adult daughter and son. They are well educated with some English, and will be happy with western style furnishings, meaning raised beds and a table and chairs for eating. They are Muslims who do not eat pork but do not require halal foods otherwise.

The list of items wanted is a long one! New or gently used items are acceptable but must – of course – be clean and in good condition. Once you have registered to provide something on the list, your donations can be delivered on the following dates:

Saturday, October 16, between 10 a.m. and 12 noon to the UU Church of Reading, MA, 236 Woburn Street, at the corner of Woburn and Summer Avenue. (Driveway and parking lot are on Summer Ave side of the building)

Sunday, Oct. 17, between 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. to St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn Street, Reading, MA. Parking lot entrance is to the right of the church building: follow the driveway down and to the left to the parish's community hall.

Reading POWIR may be able to provide assistance to move larger items. The family could arrive here at almost any time, so it will be good to start collecting what they need now!
