I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined a gallery show not knowing if I would be capable of creating a “legit” piece of art. I second guessed myself right up until I dropped it off on the due date (actually up until tonight that I saw my piece up with the rest). Was it hard? Yes. I had never worked on a canvas as big as that one and I don’t regularly work with acrylic. Did I want to give up? Yes, every day. I had to trust the process and give myself some grace (I find that I am my own worst critic). Imposter syndrome followed me every step of the way but I’m very proud to say I persevered. I am proud of not giving up!
The gallery show is called “The Lotería Show”. It is the Mexican version of bingo. We had to either recreate a card from the original game or come out with an original one. I chose to make an original one that represented my culture: El Tintico. What is Tintico? “In our Colombian culture - a tinto coffee is more than just a cup of coffee. It is deeply embedded in the way we socialize with our family and friends. It is a reason to meet with a friend or a special person and have a chat with over a tinto, it is the drink that we offer you as a warmth welcome to our homes. Anytime there is a reason to socialize, a tinto is the glue that brings us even closer together.” (purotintocoffee.com)

I have to do an appreciation post for my crew right here! I could not have done this weekend without them all. My youngest helped me organize and manage my stuff (she’s a great administrative assistant), made sure I had what I needed for my booth and helped make sure my outfits were well accessorized. My oldest was my social battery pack- she made sure to check in on me often (she knows me well and knows social settings are hard for me). And my hubby helped me lug everything to and from, drove to the convention everyday, made sure I ate and pretty much kept me sane! I wouldn’t have started this journey if it hadn’t been for them. I am thankful to God for giving me such an amazing family! I love you all!

When creating my first villain paintings I had completely forgotten about her. How could I? This movie was my oldest favorite for a while when she was a toddler. We watched it probably over 20 times. It still makes me laugh though. I think Kronk is Russell’s troop leader, tell me I’m wrong?
This is my entry for prompt #2: animated Disney villain.

Completed a quick sketch with a marker during the weekend (yes I know I posted it late) to start first prompt: Animated Disney Hero.

This quote fit perfectly with the situation we were going through yesterday during . There was nothing more we could do besides prepare for what was coming. Thank God we are save and my family is together. I do pray for everyone that was impacted by this Natural Disaster, hope they find relief and safety during these trying times.
