Before there was a business, there was music.

Some of my earliest memories are of my mom playing 45s in our living room. We'd dance, sing along, and just enjoy being together. I didn't know it at the time, but those moments sparked a love of music that would stay with me for the rest of my life.

Thirty years ago, my wife and I got married and took a chance on a dream.

Not many people thought a DJ business could provide a full-time living. Most believed you needed a traditional 9-to-5 job to make it. But I believed I could make it work, and more importantly, I loved what I did.

Back in 1996, there were no social media platforms, websites, or online advertising. We advertised in the Brides Guide and relied on referrals from family, friends, and happy customers. We used CDs and cassette tapes, not laptops and digital playlists.

I started this business in a second-floor apartment. After every event, I carried all of my equipment upstairs because I was afraid it would be stolen from my car. Somehow, I managed to fit everything into my Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

It started slowly, but I never stopped believing.

There was always a rush when I looked out and saw a packed dance floor. Seeing people leave their seats, forget about their worries, and enjoy themselves because of the music I was playing was a feeling like no other.

If you've been in business for any length of time, you know it isn't always easy. We used to call it "feast or famine." There were times when I wondered if I should do something else because there just wasn't enough work. And there were times when I was booked every weekend, sometimes multiple events in a weekend.

One of the greatest rewards of this journey has been watching my children become part of it along the way.

They all started working with me when they were around 13 years old. My oldest daughter, Jordan had a great ear for music and was always eager to learn. My middle daughter, Jenna helped with the photo booth and quickly learned how to interact with guests and make people feel comfortable. And my son, Richard, couldn't wait to be part of the team.

While the girls paths eventually led them in different directions, those years working together created memories I'll always cherish. Today, Richard has taken his passion even further. He has invested in his own equipment and has already successfully handled numerous events on his own.

Watching my children learn, grow, and gain confidence through a business that started as a dream in a small apartment has been one of the most meaningful parts of these 30 years.

I have also had the privilege of employing friends and family over the years. Some worked with me for a short time, while others stayed much longer, but each one played a role in helping this business grow. Building a business is never something you do alone, and I am grateful to everyone who was part of the journey.

Together, we've been part of thousands of celebrations: weddings, second weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, Sweet 16s, birthday parties, graduations, corporate events, and even a funeral.

Being invited into these moments has meant more to me than I can ever express. I've watched couples start their lives together, families celebrate milestones, and friends create memories that will last a lifetime. To be trusted with such important moments is something I have never taken for granted.

To everyone who trusted me to be part of your special day, thank you. Your support, referrals, and confidence in me have made these 30 years possible.

Looking back, it's amazing to think that a love of music that started in my mom's living room would lead to 30 years of helping others create memories of their own.

As I look ahead, I am excited to see Richard take on a larger role in the business and continue what began 30 years ago. Watching him develop his own style and passion for entertaining has been one of my proudest accomplishments.

Thirty years later, I still love seeing people on the dance floor.

And if these past 30 years have taught me anything, it's this:

Don't stop believin'.
