This Juneteenth, we're naming what mainstream veteran spaces have overlooked: Black veterans experiencing MST navigate a dual trauma-one from the military, one from a support system that wasn't built to see you. Your healing matters. Your story matters. What would equitable care look like for you? Download our guide on culturally responsive MST support or reach out-we're here to listen.

Changes are on the horizon for how our military handles cases of Military Sexual Trauma (MST). With the implementation of mandatory reporting protocols, we’re closing a critical gap that has long left victims without a voice. This pivotal shift champions transparency and accountability, offering better protection for our heroes.

At VetMAST, we believe that every service member deserves to feel safe and supported. These new rules mark a significant step towards rebuilding trust within the armed forces and creating an environment where veterans can seek help without fear.

We know the headline: 1 in 4 women veterans experience Military Sexual Trauma. But here's what the data reveals beyond that statistic-and why it matters for you, your unit, or the veterans in your circle.

Prevalence & Underreporting - Women veterans report MST at higher rates than their male counterparts, yet barriers to disclosure remain steep. Many never file formal reports due to fear of retaliation, stigma, or distrust in command structures.

Unique Barriers to Care - Women veterans cite lack of gender-informed providers, limited access to trauma-specialized counseling, and geographic isolation as top obstacles to seeking support.

Recovery is Possible - Veterans who engage in specialized trauma therapy show measurable improvement in PTSD symptoms, relationship functioning, and overall quality of life-often within 6-12 months.

Resource Gaps Still Exist - Despite growing awareness, many communities lack dedicated MST support groups, confidential hotlines, and peer-led healing programs tailored to women veterans.

Systemic Change is Accelerating - Armed services branches are implementing new reporting channels, mandatory MST training, and survivor-centered policies-but advocacy and accountability remain essential.

We've compiled the full data, expert insights, and actionable pathways to healing in a comprehensive resource guide. Whether you're navigating your own recovery, supporting a sister veteran, or advocating for change-this information is yours.

After experiencing Military Sexual Trauma (MST), it’s common to feel a disconnect with loved ones. You might wonder if you should open up about your trauma or shield them from your pain. It’s tough, but bridging that gap is crucial for healing.

Dissociation is a natural response your mind uses to cope-it’s not a weakness. Recognizing it is the first step to regaining control. Here are three simple grounding techniques to help you feel more present:

1. Engage Your Senses: Tune in to what you see, hear, smell, touch, and taste.
2. Body Scan: Check in with your body; notice any tension and work to breathe through it.
3. Tactical Breathing: Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds, hold for 4, and exhale through your mouth for 4. Repeat to ground yourself.

You’re not alone in this journey. We’re here to support you. For more resources, visit our website or connect with us directly.

Let’s keep this conversation going! What grounding techniques do you find helpful? Share your thoughts in the comments!

We see you. And we get it - the weight of staying quiet, the fear that your story won't land right, that judgment will follow, that maybe nobody's been through what you have.

But here's what we know: you're not alone. Not even close.

Female veterans who've experienced MST deserve spaces where you can speak freely, be believed, and heal without shame. We've built that space. Our community is full of women who *do* understand - because they've walked this path too.

Your story matters. Your experience is valid. And we're here to listen without judgment, with confidentiality, and with real support.

If you're ready to break the silence - or just ready to listen to others who have - reach out. DM us. No pressure. Just a conversation with people who get it.

You deserve to be heard. đź’™
