Super Rad Retro Lounge
MONTHLY DOG EVENTS?
Yes. Theres a good chance we will like your dog more than we like you. And thats ok - it makes you an excellent puppy parent.
Coming soon :D
If you want to know why we host kids events at a bar and arcade in downtown Raleigh, this is why....
I have a kid. And I try to be not only incredibly good looking, but a good dad. If you have a kid (or kids), its literally the job you have. Everything else falls secondary if thats the route your life has taken you.
I look at the landscape that kids have to deal with these days, and its a bit depressing. When you go to dinner at a restaurant, you'll see a full family and all of them on devices, no conversation. Kids RARELY just go out and play, sleepovers are largely a thing of the past, even the "play dates" of the 2010s seem to be gone. So many kids are being raised on tablets and phones as their primary form of communication, entertainment, and sometimes even learning, its just sad. (And please save the NOT MY KID, I get it, but your n=1 data point doesn't disprove societal trends).
Some kids simply haven't experienced a lot of different of new things. Is it purposely withholding life experiences from kids? The vast majority of times I would say no - as a parent, s**t happens, you get busy, you get tired, the kids schedule gets full, and gradually the years tick away. And we all fall into routines, kinda doing the same thing week after week. But I try to be mindful that fatigue is temporary, experiences are forever, and raising an awesome kid is more important than being busy.
So in the very very small ways that I can, I want to utilize my establishment and my desire to help others experience the same. Phones and tablets have obliterated IRL events, communication and connection between people of ALL ages. Its why Super Rad is family friendly until 8pm, its why we host kids events like our real life Duck Hunt event, why we host phone free music events, and why as long as we are able to, we will continue it.
Arcades and arcade games were popular in a very unique era - pre cell phones, pre social media, pre internet (unless you had dial up like me, AOL chat rooms FTW) - where you walked in with friends and played the hell out of some games, listened to music, and just had FUN. If you are reading this, you likely have a fond memory of this. I don't see why this has to be a distant memory, instead of something you plan to do this Sunday afternoon.
If you are still with me, heres your sign to put your phone away at dinner, try something new with the fam. Its worth it. And supporting small businesses along the way is always nice 😁
Just remember at 8pm, the lights go down, the music turns up and we are 21+ :)
