ENOUGH
The word “enough” first showed up in my life as a slammed cabinet door.
I was standing in my kitchen, staring at a sink full of dishes I’d already washed twice in my head and not once in real life, arguing with myself about whether cereal counted as dinner again. My bra was on the chair, my wig was on the dresser, and my patience was somewhere out in the parking lot smoking a cigarette. Part of me was whispering, “Trina, you are too old for this stuff,” and the other part was like, “Girl, we got through today, what more do you want?” I didn’t know then that this was the real question hiding under all my busyness and people-pleasing: when do you finally decide that what you bring to the table — even if that table is currently covered in mail, Target bags, and spiritual confusion — is actually enough?
I used to think my value was in how many times I could say “yes.”
Then one random morning, sitting on my couch with lukewarm coffee, I did something small but scary: I said, “I’m not able to do that this time. I’m taking care of some things for myself today.”
Nothing exploded. The relationship didn’t end. The world kept spinning.
What did break was the lie that my worth is tied to my usefulness.
This season, I’m practicing a new truth: “Enough” is not something people grant me. It’s a boundary I choose, one honest NO at a time because I have truly had ENOUGH!!
