Tarheel Lunkers
10/12/2025
The 2025 KBT-Kayak Bass Team regular season is in the books. What better way than to go out with another win. First and foremost - Western Branch is one of our favorite destinations, but yet again she made us earn it. To say the lake was fishing tough - is an understatement: water level well below full pool, fall transition, cold front passage, high winds, and an impending Nor'easter all at play.
Practice was incredibly tough with many of us not sure if a 10 fish limit could even be had. Ultimately it was one single cast in a single small area on Friday's practice that made all the difference.
Come tournament day following his hunch based on that single cast the day before, Keith McGee showed up confident and was not playing around. Anchored by a monster VA Citation 22.25" - Keith put up 112" in the first 90 minutes. Dave Hart Fishing Rick Morris and Dontrell Sullivan Fishing all squeaked out a few solid supplemental fish - but it took all the way til 2pm to secure our 10 fish limit with another gut call to make a 4 mile run to catch one solitary 17" fish that showed itself on Friday.
The Lunkers started the 2025 season with a dud on Roanoke Rapids - but went on a near impossible streak to win all four remaining matches, all the while securing the most points and total inches for the entire KBT-Kayak Bass Team league.
We can't go without giving a HUGE shoutout to our competitors and friends on the Virginian Anglers and Norfolk Privateers. Far and away this is the most fun and competitive trail to experience. Despite the wins - they make us earn it every single event and no one is ever out of it and you MUST turn over every stone and exhaust all options to secure a victory. All teams give their all every event and down to every wire.
Next up we keep the train rolling to defend our National Championship on Lake Murray, SC in a few weeks. I couldn't be more proud of this team and its commitment and dedication. All in. All the time.

KBT-Kayak Bass Team
06/30/2025
Lunkers do what Lunkers do. And we do it well.
Aside from our recent KBT-Kayak Bass Team team win on "the Chick" (recap to come) - the Lunkers have been busy racking up solo accolades as well...
Brown Fish in North Dakota, Ledge Fish on the TVA, and d***s on Shearon Harris have all led to recent wins for Mike Wimmer Wyatt Hammond and Dave Hart
Mike had a solid 88.25" of spawning smallmouth on Ashtabula Lake in North Dakota with NDKB. (watch out folks - he's coming east to fish an event)
Dave managed a piddly (but the only 5 fish limit of the tourney) 65.75" 🤢 limit on a very stingy day on Shearon Harris with Central Carolina Kayak Fishing
Wyatt did Wyatt things and sacked up 175" (9 of his duo's 10 best fish) on Nickajack to take the win in the Team Kayak Series event this past weekend. His "small" bass was a 19".
Congrats fellas! Next up on the KBT-Kayak Bass Team schedule - Mayo Lake August 2nd.
